Pizza topped with potatoes, salads featuring sunchokes and infused cold foam beverages are top menu trends at Canadian restaurants, according to Technomic’s recently published New Item Trends report.

The report delves into the details of new items added to Canadian menus in the first quarter of 2023.

Full-service restaurants added the most new items in the first quarter, with 70 per cent of the new items reported.

Here are some of the trends that emerged from the past quarter’s new menu items.

Popular appetizers include vegan poutine and cured fish.

Popular entrées include salads featuring sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes) and pizza topped with potatoes.

Popular desserts include poached ingredients and white chocolate mousse.

Popular non-alcohol beverages infused cold foams and pistachio lattés.
